Varicose Vein Treatment

There are several ways to treat your varicose veins. For years one of the more common treatments was vein stripping. However, recently a new therapy called Endovenous Laser Therapy “ELT” has emerged as the treatment of choice because of the excellent results and the minimally invasive nature of this treatment.

ELT involves the insertion of a very fine laser fiber into the greater saphenous vein using ultrasound. As Dr. Fox gently pulls the laser fiber out the laser seals off the unhealthy veins causing the varicose veins to diminish in size.

During the procedure, the involved area of your leg is anesthetized and laser energy is then delivered to damage and eventually eliminate the varicose veins. This relieves the varicose leg pain as well. Once the laser energy has been applied a compression stocking is put on your leg. Walking immediately following the procedure is encouraged and normal activities can be immediately resumed. This is a very quick, minimally invasive therapy which has little or no side effects. The results are immediate and visible to the patient. This treatment has proven very effective in eliminating varicose veins and is very safe. This treatment is covered under most insurance plans.

Spider Vein Treatment

Dr. Fox utilizes the “Double Injury” method when treating spider veins on the leg. This technique treats the spider veins with the D940 laser, followed by an injection of sclerosing solution into the associated reticular or “feeder” vein. The initial use of the surface laser damages the vein allowing only a small amount of sclerosing solution to pass from the reticular vein to the spider vein. The vein is then reabsorbed into the body like a bruise. The benefit of the “Double Injury” method over sclerotherapy alone is faster resolution and a significant decrease in the risk of brown staining often associated with sclerotherapy.

A consultation is necessary to determine if varicose vein and spider vein treatment using the endovenous or surface laser is right for you. During your consultation we will recommend a detailed plan, answer any of your questions, and discuss involved costs and possible insurance reimbursement.
